Te Pipiwharauroa Supplement

Te Pipiwharauroa Supplement

Translated by Barry Olsen.

Notes and Queries.

My translation is at hekupuwhakamarama.blogspot.com.

Editions of the paper are numbered from 1 to 180, including the earliest editions which bore the name He Kupu Whakamarama.

Throughout the paper Aotearoa refers to the North Island and Te Waipounamu to the South Island.

I have frequently translated motu (island) as country.

Long vowels which are very occasionally marked in the original text are rendered by doubling the vowel.

I would appreciate explanations of the meanings of the following words and phrases. I have sometimes given my speculative translations.
